About Us

Busy night, happy bander – Lamb’s Knoll, Maryland (©Steve Huy)

Project Owlnet is made up of hundreds of researchers – academic, agency-based and independent – working at more than 125 sites across North America. Using standardized methodologies, we have made dramatic strides in better understanding the migration and movements of the continent’s owls, especially northern saw-whet owls. Project Owlnet has three main goals:

Support expansion of a network of migrant owl-banding stations;

Advocate the use of relatively comparable netting protocols;

Improve communication and coordination between owl-banding stations in North America.
